We moved into a new apartment recently. As preparation for that, we measured the apartment and I made this floor plan:
Then we measured the furniture we wanted to bring and mad a to-scale diagram of the furniture: 
By printing the furniture diagram on cardstock paper, we could cut it out and use to fiddle around with ideas for furniture setup. Worked like a charm!
The floor plan and furniture was made as a single diagram with multiple layers. It has a layer for the outline, a layer for the internal walls, a layer for doors and windows, a layer for the grid, and a layer with the furniture.
